Hi Everybody,

I want to get my Piebald mare freezemarked and am worried about her being marked down in showing classes. I have done a search of the forum and have found some threads saying that a horse with a freezemark should not be marked down, but I can't find anything on where the best place for a freezemark is.

Ideally I would go for the shoulder because it is easily visible and also means I should be able to carry on riding after the freezemark has been done - but I know if I were a judge I would probably find it a bit distracting. What do you think - could I get it done on the shoulder, will a judge be able to see past it?

Also, which company would you reccommend, Farmkey or Freezemark (are there any others?)
Any advice welcome!
Thanks

You should not be marked down for a freezemarking. I would recommend, if you can possibly give up riding for a bit, going for under the saddle. As you've said, they are very distracting and they are detrimental to the appearance of your horse.

A good judge should ignore it, however, wherever you decide to put it.

My older cob is marked under the saddle and has shown county/HOYS without a problem. My younger cob is dark bay and was marked on his shoulder by his previous owner. In the showring it is a hideous blemish that massively detracts from his confirmation and i have to "nice n easy" it out when showing. I AM NOT anti freezemarking just really dislike it on the shoulder for showing.. freezemark have done all of mine. the main issue is that it seems to take months to get an appointment :(
