Showing yearling/rising two coloured cobs

So as an "I don't do coloured cobs" kinda person, I just bought me a coloured cob lol. Not for fashion or to keep up with the Jones' but because I saw him when I was buying my other new baby and decided he was cute and had him as well.

So tomorrow I am collecting a 12 month old traditional type coloured cob and my black section D.

I plan to do m&m with the section D, a bit of low level dressage and my daughter will jump her. All the things we do with our others four horses.

Merlin is new territory for me, I want to show him I hand whilst he is young then back him and show him under saddle and do the things I do with the others. Except I have no idea about showing coloureds...stupid I know. I mean what tack should he have, I am thinking a white rope halter but am I right? I take it he isn't trimmed up apart from to keep tidy?

What do I need to wear? I have a brown tweed show jacket, would that be acceptable and what head wear for me? He has white legs and black markings, would I be better in black or brown trousers?

I have been showing veterans for so long I have forgotten how to show a youngster lol.

If he's traditional then workmanlike tack - so a chunky rope halter would be better than a dainty inhand bridle/slip.

I don't know the rules on trimming a traditional so I can't help there, but would usually advise looking at photos of what people do at county level.

Tweed is good, definitely wear a hat (I think you can wear any sort these days - would probably go Aussie bush hat myself as long as it fits well and isn't likely to blow off) and wear whatever dark trousers look best with your jacket.
