Just wondered what your opinions are on my horsey. She is a cob x. She has grown some feather over the winter and she is very hairy. If you were going to show her this summer, how best do you think she would look?? Not sure whether to leave feather on or trim, hog mane or pull or leave alone. Also what classes would you put her in? Bit confused as to what to do. I want to put her in the veteran classes as she is 16 but could do with a bit of advice please.

Thank you happybus. I didn't do anything last year as only got her in July so will be taking it steady, just wasn't sure which way to go as she's not a proper cob. I think I'd quite like to do coloured classes but how should she look??

I'm really not sure, personally I think she looks fine as she is but everyone has a different perspective. I personally don't like hogged manes but that is only my point of view. I've got a traditional piebald cob who is very hairy with loads of feather and mane and a long tail and I think he looks fantastic. But there are a people I've come across at shows who look down their noses at him because he's a chunky bloke. You do what you think you like and have fun. I might see you at a show this summer

I wouldn't hog, but you could trim the feathers if you wanted to, you could show as she is, in coloured classes it has to be your choice, but lovely looking horse and great markings.

She's lovely

From those pictures I'd say she hasn't got enough bone for cob classes, but she could do we'll in coloured classes, riding horse etc.

I'd keep her mane pulled and plait for shows, pull her tail and trim her feathers.

She's not "traditional" enough looking to to go for the full hairy look.

I think she looks a really lovely mare, i dont think she has enough feather to leave it on so would def take that off, trim her jaw line too it gives an overall smarter look, imo with her mane it depends if she looks good plaited up i think she will look great as she is not really a heavy cob so would suit plaits and you could do rideability classes, tack and turn out, coloured and veteran classes. just have fun good luck ....

I would take feathers off, trim and hogg her and show her in show cob and coloured classes. I think she looks gorgeous and would suit a hogg, but then I do like my show cobs so I would say that!!

Hi personally, i would trim her out and plait her up. Looking at her build she is more a hunter build rather than riding/show horse so i would turn her out as a hunter. She isnt 'traditionally hairy' to be shown as a traditional hairy cob so then its best to show her nearest to her type. You could get away with lightweight show cob, possibly, but i think her neck will be better emphasised with plaits.

She looks like she would be a good contender for riding club horse classes?

Sorry, i may have missed it but wasnt sure what height she is.

Another vote for 'not cob'
Trim and plait and turn her out as a Riding horse, if you want fancy browband, or plain as Show Hunter Pony

WHP if you both jump!

Trim, pull and plait. Not enough chunk for cobs, and not hairy enough for trads or natives in coloureds.

I would do veterens, coloureds, riding club horse/pony (not sure what height she is) and depending onbehaviour, family mount and if she jumps you could have fun in working hunter.

Good luck and have fun.
