I have a 6 year old Appaloosa x New Forest and I think he'd do really well in in-hand showing. The trouble is, he's ridden and used to being in a bitless bridle (dr cook) as this is what he's always been in and responds very well to it. I was just wondering whether you're allowed to show in bitless bridles? Also when we moved him to the yard we are now, he got kicked a few times so has some scars on his bum - would this affect showing? Any info would be great, many thanks.

Really they like them to have a bit in. If he will tolerate it you can have a rubber bit in, then attach the lead rein to the noseband so there's no pressure on the bit its self :)

Any photos of the scars? wonderful stuff can be done with makeup ;)

Oh right, okay thanks. Hmmmm  I will get some photo's of them tomorrow, what would you put on them as because he has a white bum you can see the marks but I've never shown in-hand before so it's all new! :)

If he is a gelding then you can show in leather slips or white halters BUT I'm not a fan and prefer them bitted just for looks but yes, attach the lead to the noseband if you do go for a bit. As to scars - fiddle and play with make up and I'm sure you'll find a way to disguise them well enough ;)
