Blimey, is it a sign of the times that the British showjumping team win gold and we don’t say anything? Or is there some behind the scenes editing going on?

Personally I think it suggests we’re perhaps all a bit weary and wary of professional horse sport now, underscoring my belief that it’s had its day… (because if the horsey set care little, Joe Public really don’t care and the sponsors will be deeply unimpressed with their returns)

But on BBC radio (the bits I listen to anyway) there has been far less about the SJers winning than Andy Murray losing!

Well I was out all day and specifically avoided social media when I got home and watched the whole thing when I got home on Discovery+ catch up. It was great entertainment and very exciting.
The trouble is these days , those of us that sort of follow SJ ( I am really an Eventing person) know the top riders but not necessarily their horses. I did know the names of two out of the three. Back in the day of huge SJ popularity, the horses were the stars and we knew their names, loved the horses and followed their careers.
Andy Murray is in a different league for promoting tennis in Britain but I have to agree that recently his farewell has been a little on a par with Frankie Detori’s one!! Andy has found it hard to let go and is still big news to the media.
Anyway….well done the SJ team! 🎉🥇🥇🥇

Was saying to someone the other day that when I was young (long time ago) Britain winning any medal was huge and a gold was a rarity. Given better funding, more sports included and perhaps in some sports reduced dominance by various countries, Olympic medals and even golds for Britain are less of a rarity and that is in no way denegrating the huge amazing achievement but it means that coverage of many successful sports.

To clarify, I was talking specifically about on here - I saw it on the news / BBC coverage. If it’s on a specific thread then yes, my bad, I didn’t see it.

I think there's been more about Andy Murray losing than just about anything. At one point the BBC were showing one of his matches on rb1 and cutting to in on bbc1 as well despite the other sports.

There's been more on the SJ than the Trampoline gold on the same day and they were brought into the studio for an interview last night.

My non horsey friends are very much anti horse sports, the latest incident really finished them.
