Showjumping reins - with loops

I may be loosing the plot, but I am sure I have seen reins with loops for the riders hands to stop the reins slipping - think it was on a showjumper.

Not the Mailer briding reins, something else entirely - the loops are all the way down the reins.

Does anyone have any clue what I mean or where to get them, or did I dream them?!

It wasn't like those, but they are a similar idea - the Ernest Dillon ones are very smart and by De Bois but v expensive.

What I am thinking of is if you imagine a normal rein, then split into sections like a continental rein, with a loop at each section. Does that make any sense at all?! I have a pic in my head of a male SJ rider using them....

I could do with some of those!! I'm terrible for letting the reins slip through my fingers when jumping! I dont know how it happens either! My trainer pulls her hair out shouting "reins!"

Some of the para dressage riders use reins very similar to the Ernest Dillon ones, think they refer to them as ladder reins. Could you take a picture of the De Boiz ones to your local saddler and get them adapt a pair of your reins?

Yup Peter Charles uses them, though I think the original ones he had were made specially. So not much help really, other than to say that you are right!

Oh WOW, I need some of those - I am dreadful at letting my outside rein get longer than my inside, this would cure that! I also let my reins get longer and longer over an SJ course unless I pay attention to myself....what a great idea!

Just had a Google, and someone on a forum said that they have stitched 2 pairs of webbing reins together with gaps which form loops - which would be a cheaper way to do it and you can make your *gaps* as wide or narrow as you like

I would have loved these for going xc on Boss in the rain- the number of times I lost control through not having enough grip, even on the grippiest reins with the grippiest gloves.....

My worry is that if something goes wrong and you adopt safety position and need to slip the reins, wont the loops pull you forward/ yank back on the horse's mouth unless you're v quick thinking and slip your hand out.....

Yes that is exactly what they would do I think, which is why I think they are just SJ reins, I spose you could still ocasionally have to slip the rein a bit

Boss, I guess that could happen, though I would think you could slip just a finger or two through the loops? I was interested for flatwork purposes and for someone else anyway for jumping!

I am looking at mailer reins at the moment as I have a hard pulling horse and to make my life easier end up with longer and longer reins but get a fast, flat horse. So am hoping to break my bad habit!

I think there would not be a problem xc as I would probably move it up a couple of holes so slightly longer than for SJ.

Sounds like a good idea, although don't think I'll be using them 1. because of the price and 2. you can't slip the reins, and I HATE it when people pull their horses in the mouth!

Lol, I quite often find the need to slip the reins in the sj- my horse and I have disagreements about how many strides we can fit in before a jump

I really want something for flat work - it is a long way from his head to my hands and my reins to have a tendancy to get longer and longer. I try not to need to slip the reins when doing flatwork

I put some insulation tape on my reins at the right length and then it helps me keep them the same and even. I just look down and adjust to keep my hands even.
