Woke up this morning thinking we were going to NH, but realised at the last minute I had got it wrong and we were actually going to the ILPH, fortunately takes the same amount of time so we set off OK. I had decided just to take him out and do the clear round first and then the novice to see how he was after not competing for a few weeks. Got there and warmed up. He was very very bouncy, but not too strong, leapt the warm up fence about 4ft in the air followed by 3 huge bucks, not a good start. Anyway he seemed to calm down a little, so we went to go in for the clear round, they still had Christmas decorations up which I wasn't expecting but didn't seem to faze him and he did a lovely clear round (a bit hurried in places but he did listen this time when I checked him so he is improving)
Warmed up for the novice and he was still bouncing like mad, went in and he did another nice clear round, without me having to bring him back to trot once, so was really chuffed with him.
He then had his first ever jump off
Attempted to ride it exactly the same as the last round, but J had other ideas (he gets a bit competitive this one
) Jumped fence one, and then J decided he knew exactly what he was doing and didn't need me, and set off for fence 2 (we were supposed to be jumping no. 4
) but he listened when I corrected him and turned and jumped no. 4, jumped no. 5 huge, followed by another huge buck (I love my new saddle
) he then attempted to take off, but stopped him quickly before he got away from me, turned and jumped the double really nicely, and did the last 2 well too. So he managed his first double clear
Wasn't fast enough to be placed but not bothered about that, would actually have prefered it a little slower tbh
So all in all very pleased with the little monster
We then got stuck in the mud and had to be pulled out
Thanks for reading, photos to follow in PG
