That is the question! Rubbish at making a decision so putting this out there. Mare is nice - not a super star, i've read all the posts on here about the two and they are never compared. I am not sure if she has or has not got a bad hind leg, she moves quite nicely and jumps. I want to breed something for myself but want to give it the absolutely best shot - dressage mainly. I know they are both lovely but i can't find much out about their offspring. Any advice would be hugely welcomed!
Thank you.

I know of three friends that have Showmaker foals this year and are 1 colt, two filly's and have look at me factor but Garuda K - No Idea.
So this reply isn't much help! sorry just come home from Foal watch!

they are both quite different types in terms of build, conformation and movement- you really need to work out which one suits your mare and what you are trying to breed.

any pics of the mare?

Agree with millitiger, you will need to look at your mare then look at the stallion. It also helps to see offspring if poss from mares like yours to see what traits are being passed on.

Both are super stallions in their own right, ive used Garuda K this year so am looking forward to a foal for 2010 so cant comment really on offspring, but I would echo the above be critical of your mare and offset any faults with the stallion, Showmaker is a very tall stallion Garuda has less height so take that into consideration as well.

I considered both of them before settling on Silvermoon! Showmaker is a big stallion, a full up 17.1 and substantial. He has a fabulous temperament. He's a lovely mover but hasn't got the quickest hind leg and has taken a while to get his changes correct. I wouldn't put him to a mare that doesn't have a very quick hind leg and who finds changes easy. (Having had one horse that found it easier to go late behind in the changes and having to train them to do changes correctly I know it takes ages. 2 1/2 years later I don't want to go through that again!!!)

Garuda K is light, quick, sensitive and athletic. He's 16.2 and a middleweight. I haven't seen him in the flesh so cannot decide whether he has such an extravagant front end his hind leg looks slow in comparison or whether he does have a slightly slow hind leg. His changes are fine down to 2s and he's doing very well at Advanced so I think he's more likely to have a very extravagant front end rather than a slow hind leg. He's another stallion with a lovely temperament (according to his rider).

I think both are lovely stallions. I think a Garuda K offspring would be quicker thinking and quicker off the leg. A Showmaker youngster would be bigger and more imposing and perhaps have a slower brain so be more suited for riders who don't like TB-type brains. My personal preference is for the Trakehner brain but I like quick, forward horses. You should get something nice with both of them.

I love both these stallions. Stolensilver has described their strengths and weaknesses very well. I have a yearling colt by Showmaker who I love more every day. Beautiful head (but so has mum) big and with super bone and joints but not too heavy. But he will be tall (as most of her foals are).

Garuda K I hope to use next year. Very pretty head, lovely quality, I really like his foals I have seen. Would be sharper than Showmaker but still has a nice attitude

We've got a Garuda K filly on the yard who is stunningly pretty and correct; her temprement is also very sweet and affectionate

Spot on. Couldn't put it better. Especially about the hind leg.

Hi there. I have a really gorgeous 2008 filly by Garuda K. He really does stamp his stock beautifully - they all seem to come out very quick & light footed with a pretty head/neck and an elegant frame & a VERY balanced canter from what I have seen, great if you like the typical trakehner style, not great if you like a good hunter type - he probalbly suits a heavier type of mare - mine is Irish sports horse, jumps like a stag & built like a tank and I specifically picked him to bring a bit of lightness and balance and elegance... That's EXACTLY what I got!
She's also got a lovely temperament. I have seen Garuda in the flesh. He's soft as a kitten, incredibly well behaved & he was only 6 when I met him. There was a sudden hale storm when he was beeing shown under saddle for me and as I was desperately trying to shelter behind the kick boards of the school, he carried on working, his ears never stopped being pricked forward for one instant. He was impressive in all respects then, and he has improved a lot since. I immediately quit looking for a stallion!
Showmaker is also impressive in his amazingly powerful frame and action, but unless your mare is a twiglet thoroughbred, I probably wouldn't use him. Still, it's a question of deciding what it is you want and what your mare is like for a good match.

I too have seen Garuda in the flesh - we were going to use him on OH's ISH mare this year but have decided against breeding at the moment - I personally felt he was quick enough behind but v extravagant in front.

We too saw him on an awful day (sleet/hail/strong winds you name it) and his behaviour was exemplary both in and out of stable.

He was the only stallion we saw in the flesh where we were led in to the stable woth him untied and the person walked out leaving us with him - really was the sweetest boy.

For me out of the 2 I would use Showmaker as much more my stamp/size of horse but I cannot rate Garuda high enough from what I saw of him.

OH wanted to breed for him to keep and likes the lighter stamp so was more than happy Garuda was the right match
