I know I only posted about 10 minutes ago, but something popped into my head :P

Ethel was in training to be a race horse for a few months, but she never raced and never got given a race name .. so would she still be eligable for ex-racehorse classes at shows? That is if they even do them lol although I'm sure I saw it once at a local show.

Most of the classes say if horses who haven't acctually run are allowed to enter. I have seen alot of them that say they can!

I am with Scotnorth ex racehorse club. Our rules say that the horse must have been in training for at least 6 months with a licenced trainer but doesn't need to have actually run a race.
Do you know who she was in training with?

Yes, she was in training at the yard I work at, the trainer is John Best so is licenced. Although I'm not sure how long she was in training for, I think it was only 4 or 5 months.

For the horse to take part in the racehorse to riding horse classes, then they must have raced. This rule has only just been introduced, as what was happening the horses were in training but were then going on to be professionally produced for these classes. However at local riding club level this does not matter. I recently did my first ever ex race horse class, we placed 2nd and really enjoyed it. Charlie did not put a hoof wrong.

I didm't realise that RoR had changed the rules, that's a shame if people were abusing it.

Tonitot - sounds like your horsey wouldn't be eligible for the showing classes but don't let it stop you joining the club. Not sure what area you are in but we hold lot''s of clinics ; jumping, stressage, XC etc. You could get involved in these. Plus our forum is really friendly
and great for support and advice.
