hi guys and gals

I was wondering if anyone knows of any local shows to the scottish borders that i would be able to take my 2 year old (unreg PBA) to. He is an arab/appaloosa and i did compete him last year, but in hunter classes as i couldnt find any local shows that did PBA in hand. I dont particularly want to do hunter again, as i really don't want to pull his mane and with him only being 14.1hh currently he gets marked down because of his height. I'm happy to travel him for up to 2 hours, but don't particularly want to take him any further.

Can't help with local shows but have you thought of hunter pony classes? I used to do pba classes with my old pony then someone suggested hunter pony classes and she did brilliant in them. I never pulled her mane either just lots of plaits.

hi yeh
I did see a hunter pony class at dalkeith show, which i was considering taking him to. Allthough i would definetly have to pull his mane. Somehow he has got an extremely thick mane, so they would look like giant golf balls lol.

I was reading else were that you have to pull and plait for PBA shows anyways, so looks like his beautiful long mane is going to have to go.

thanks for your help :)

I can't help with local shows either as i'm in Wales but even in PBA classes he will have to be plaited with a pulled tail. Only the purebreds get shown natural.
To be honest (and i'm only talking from personal experience) in the 3yrs we have shown our PBA in hand for the majority of the PBA classes we have been the only entry. We now don't even bother with these classes unless there is a wait between classes, for something to do. We enter any other class we are eligable for instead, potential sports horse/pony, amateur home produced (we show in-hand).
Unfortunately, due to a lack of support, a lot of smaller shows have dropped arab classes altogether and the larger, arab breed only shows that we have travelled much further to have only one class that you can enter so its a lot of time and money for just one class.
Sorry to sound so negative, it may be different where you are
Good luck
Emma xx

This was my girl, she was arab x dartmoor and her mane was thick enough to act as a buffer for electric fencing!

Not sure if this has worked, never posted pics here before. I also can't make the pic any bigger so my apologies if they are tiny!!
