Did Driffield yesterday (Hounds)& was pretty miffed that here was another show not checking the removal passes. You would think, after what has gone on lately, that they would be on the ball. We pay huge entry fees so at the least they could play their part re security, I know they can't stop the determined thief but they could at least deter the casual one.

I know,I know, but at the end of a long day with a long drive home, and possibly chuffed by success, like at WKC, I,for one,do not really savour the frantic scrabble for passes to get out.I mean, who in their right mind would have four mini bulls in four cages in their car,and with the required (now) kennel name and dog`s number on it?

It still could have happened that someone could have lifted one of your dogs & driven off with it with no trouble at all. Could have been used in fighting circles. You may have felt differently then & have had your good day ruined (& many after that). I always have all my passes ready to hand in on leaving, no struggle to find them & a small price to pay for my dogs security & my peace of mind.

Its a long long time since I went to an all breed show, but if I was attending one I would be happy to show exit passes. In view of the recent thefts I would have thought shows would have beefed up security to prevent any reoccurrence.

I was very surprised at Driffield champ show at the lack of security. Did'nt need to show any passes , parked straight behind our benching tent , took dogs straight in , one dog i took nfc ready to pay on the gate but seen as no-one seemed to care what dogs where there i did'nt bother going to the secretary to pay for him .
Anyone could of taken a dog from the show , my dogs never leave my side when at a show anyway , but lots of dogs are left on the benches whilst owner's are in the ring etc .
Be interesting to see if there's an article in the dog paper's about this .

I used to do a lot of champ shows, (gave up about 7 years ago), and they always used to be really hot on removal passes. Shocked to think that they have become lax, especially with all the dog thefts these days!

We used to take it in turns to stay with the dogs on the benches - our guys were never left, but lots of dogs were unattended, even at Crufts, where there were members of the public everywhere.

We in our breed are a pretty small and close bunch, the benches are never left unattended, the dogs are always caged and most people padlock their cages.

Lovely to have a situation like that EK but my breed usually has an entry of over a 100. Whatever the breed though I really feel that canine societies should check the passes, I expect we are paying for the person on the gate that is ignoring us as we leave, bet we wouldn't have got past on the way in if we hadn't got the car park pass displayed, they would have wanted our money for that for sure.
