So obviously you have local RC/EC/PC shows and then you have county shows, bu what are shows called that have loads of sheep/goat/cows/guinea pigs/BSJA/craft stands/etc. that 100's of locals paying to get in?? Are they still local, or do they have another name?

Just always wondered what category they fall into??

Agricultural Shows are usually county level

THey are called Agricultural shows because historically they are run by the local Agri society, they do happen to have affiliated classes. The term County comes from the fact that each county (eg Lancashire, Cheshire) has their own show. There is also the local Agricultural shows which are notch below the County shows, then you might get Village shows as a one off or annual event.
God how full of sh1t am I?

Well I thought county shows meant it was the county show, so for us would be the great yorkshire show??

I think agricultural show is the right word, although people never mention it on here but it's a llot different to local or county!

So in my case (Scotland) - we dont have "counties" as such like you do. So we dont have what Id call county shows. Ours are organised within towns if you know what I mean. So what are these called?! Just agri shows?

I always thought that agricultural shows were the same as county shows. They seem to fall into the same category as BB2 describes. The horse and pony classes are nearly always Affiliated to the usual Societies, like BSJA, BSPS, P(UK), CHAPS etc.

I love these shows - there is always a great atmosphere and visitors seem to be of the genuine country-loving people who appreciate everything on show. One exception, unfortunately, is the Royal Country of Berkshire 2 day Show held at Newbury in September. The horse classes have dwindled dramatically and more and more room is taken up with Trade Stands which have absolutely no connection with Agriculture or country life at all. The showground is right on the edge of the M4 from London
