Shredded Paper as bedding

I bedded my horse on bales of shredded newspaper for a while and actually quite liked it - the wet absorbed well and could be kind of lifted out in chunks quite easily. Not smelly or dusty either. Downside is it used to make me cringe shaking the 'slices' for some reason - like scraping nails down a blackboard to me, but that's just me being freaky! Also, quite messy and some yard owners object to that side, plus not all would allow it on the same muckheaps as other types of bedding.

Lady stabled next door to me (or should I say lady with her horse stabled next to me

) uses it but only as a freebie to bulk out her straw bed. She said she wouldnt use it on its own coz its not absorbant (sp?) enough.

i used it when i first got my mare as i didnt get paid that much but found its great. its cheao and the wet seemed to lift out in nice 'slices' only down side is if it falls on wet ground i.e. concrete yard its impossible to brush it all up so a little messy!

I found it the best and cheapest for use with straw. My stable has a dip, where the wet collects, so I need something very absorbant, which it is. It rots down on the muckheap, but then I do use a lot of straw as well, which is free for me.
