Moved back in to the area last year, having been away for a few years, and this season I actually have transport so can start getting out with the boy.

Any recommendations as to who to go with? Went out with the North Shrops a few times before I moved away but I don't think I know anyone who hunts with them anymore (though from looking at the website it looks like my old saddler is now a Joint Master!). Would want to start off autumn hunting and really just looking for a nice, welcoming and friendly hunt.

I wouldn't call myself a seasoned hunter but been out enough times to know what it's about. I would however call the horse a seasoned hunter; it's mostly all he has done with his life (now 15), knows what it's all about, absolutely loves it (despite my best efforts at turning him into a dressage pony ) and I think would jump anything I pointed him at when he's following someone. I don't have a great desire to jump massive hedges, drops or ditches but happy enough over standard stuff. He is a big, strong chap but he knows his job and will just do what everyone else does.

I do know who is around this area so really looking for recommendations rather than just a list of local hunts. :)

I went out once with the Tanatside last season and found them to be very friendly and welcoming. Certainly wasn't a big jumping day in the area we were in that day.

We'll be going again if I can get some transport of my own sorted.

My daughter hunts with the North and they always seem a very friendly bunch. Also "Springs" on this forum hunts with the North. They are likely to be starting Autumn hunting at the end of August (weather and harvest dependant !). So give one of the secretaries a call.

Hi it really depends on where you live, the North, South, Tantside and albrighton are all good hunts,

I live on the border between the the north and the Wyn, but as the north ride out more locally I go with them most of the time and visit the others when I can.

Drop me a PM if you need the secs number, Should start the hound exercise ib the next few weeks.

I am a subscriber to the Tanatside - kennels in Welshpool, Powys but we do cross over the Shrops border. Small, grass routes hunt with a lot more jumping in recent seasons with stunning country. Very friendly and supportive of the less seasoned hunters!
Similiar sized hunt would be the United whose kennels are in Bishops Castle, South Shrops. Equally beautiful country to the Tanatside, but not as much jumping.
Have fun!

Great, thanks Lizzie. I've chatted to a few friends locally since I posted this and while one goes out with the North Staffs, the rest go out with the North Shrops if they hunt and are still saying they're a good bunch.

I've lost all the phone numbers I had a few years ago but there's an email form on the website so I'll email them for a chat.
