Just in time for Appleby too - he behaved impeccably, eating (or course) whilst the deed was done. I opted for a full four letters rather than the horseshoe, as it's much clearer. It seemed to cause pain just for the first few seconds with each letter, and then he just carried on chomping. And there was me with a twitch and a tube of sedalin handy !!!

Highly recommend to anyone concerened about theft. I'll put a pic on tomorrow when there's something (ie swelling) to see. I just feel so relieved that I've been able to do something pro-active xx :)

Puz didn't even blink for her freezemarked, I would 100% recommend everyone has every horse freezemarked.

There has NEVER been a freezemarked horse stolen and not recovered.

Brilliant. :D

Where abouts did he have it done? I've seen some interestingly placed FM's on coloured horses due to the positioning of their dark patches. ;)

imagine a polypad on, just to the bottom and right of it (on his left side) - last rib sort of area. he could only have it there, or he would have to have had the micro-chip "horseshoe" on his shoulder, but I wanted the full monty.

yes - the letters are held on for a bit longer, and rather than just killing the colour of the hair, it kills the hair follicle altogether (I think that's right ?). So the mark shows up in grey horses as a bald letter rather than a white letter.

I really wanted white letters on his black bits to show up more - shame they can't come out in hi vis !

Good day's work there, Shysmum :-)))

In response to other poster, yes they can do a sort of freezemark on the white parts, but it's not nearly as visible from a difference, tho its a lot better than none at all.

So am I, lol. Just feel so very relieved now.

The travellers are here now for Appleby ( a not dissimilar horse has just gone past our house at a very fast trot). *sigh*.

Fab, Bodey never even noticed either, too busy stuffing his face in a tasty bucket of food! I actually really like the way his looks too.
Better safe then sorry in my opinion!

Not so..... trotter mare from our old yard was stolen several years ago. She was not only freezemarked but microchipped too.....yet vanished and has not been seen since!

Interesting! Having a coloured cob makes you extra wary.

Do you have to pay anything after the initial fee and will they come out for just one horse do you know?

Thanks!

Talking of interesting places, my boy is piebald but very little black so he had his in a 6 by 6 square behind his left ear right at the top of his neck. I thought it would really hurt him there but he didn't even notice!

I've seen photos of american horses with interesting freezemarks on their necks.

Google has found this info. ;)

I think the data is horses freezemarked and registered with Farmkey, they have never not been recovered.

Yay so pleased for Shy, he be much safer now :D I love freezemarks, don't know why more horses aren't done seems like a no brainer...

Shysmum - have you got a pic of where your boy has had his freezemark? Just asking as I have a piebald cob that I want freezemarked, but all the parts where I would have thought he could be freezemarked (shoulder/saddle area) are white!

I think he will have to have it done either high on his shoulder on a white patch or on his flank (if it's not too far back) where it's black, but just wondering how it has come out on others.

hiya - your pony's marking look similar to Shys...poss not enough black on the shoulder either, but you could have it in the same place as Shy ... I will get a photo tomorrow, the lettering is just starting to show up.

Looking at his left side, imagine your horse has a polypad on. Shy's mark is at the bottom right of the polypad, and clearly seen behind it. Does that make any sense ? :)

Will get the pic and put it on here tomorrow x

Thanks. I think he will probably need to be done in the same place as your boy too. I had two skewbalds freezemarked previously, but they both had brown patches in convenient places!

a coloured at my yard has it done in a vertical line in the long patch just behind your boys last rib :)

Glad you've got him done - will need to get a shufty on and get Millie done! Just be careful as unless you do a full clip in the winter you'll have to clip out the mark with the amount of winter coat! I have to clip Olly's out all year round otherwise I can't read it!

MJ's a palomino, and his was originally done under the saddle, but because he goes quite pale in winter, it doesn't show up. WE had another one done on his shoulder, and the irons were held on for longer to destroy the follicles - however it didn't do that, so now he is only FM with his summer coat!
