ok so 3 year old spaniel has just come in from the garden with a completely foamy mouth.

Theres nothing out there she can get - washing up liquid etc....not eaten anything live as far as i can see.

I cant take her temp as i have nothing to take it with but her pulse is deemed normal.... (by moi ) her gums are pink and she just wants me to leave her alone so she can put her paws up n go sleep (normal).....

I wiped her mouth twice but the 'foam/drool etc' came back instantly.... its now gone but shes keeps licking her mouth.

im bothered about going to bed in case shes ill in the nght and i dont wake up very easily so im sitting up for a bit with her..

i know i sound insaine but has anyone ever had this problem with their pooches???

p.s before i get slammed for not rushing her off to the vets at 11PM :D if this was more serious than it is - this thread wouldnt even be here... i would be at the vets.

if shes still weird tomorow i will not hesitate to take her the vets.... just so thats cleared up.

sounds like she may have had an encounter with a toad, or snail or some such creature. I think there are some garden-dwelling beasts that have something on their skin that can cause such a reaction. My lab has come in like this before and he's always been fine, but Id keep an eye on her and make sure she's drinking and not sick through the night just to be on the safe side.

ETA- there is no chance she could have got access to slug pellets or anything like that is there? neighbours couldnthave put any close to your fence?

Thanks for the reply.....

We have never had toads etc in our garden but i wouldnt rule it out.... slug pellets well i have to say next doors garden *both sides* are very pretty full of flowers so would not surprise me if they had slug pellets.... but the fence is 6 foot,, and she cannot get on the entire garden as we have fenced some off......

i know i sound like a right worrier with this thread but this dog is my baby :o

Yep, I was going to say toad/frog too.

Our dogs are absolutely obsessed with them and they too foam if they manage to mouth them.

no worries, i have 6 , that are all my babies... ;)

as i said, ive had this with my lab and he was fine - just been messing with slimy-crawly things in the garden:rolleyes:

but - not to freak you out. i have a friend whose neighbours put some kind of poison along the edge of their fence and their dog got at it.... so do keep checking her though the night.

thanks both :)

she wasnt out there for long... just bedtime toileting.

the neighbour to my right is garden obsessed, so i would not be surprised if she didn thave any pellets down....

i wont be sleeping tonight thats for sure!.... i had planned to take her the massive park tomorow (hour round trip) so i will have to see how she is... theres always another day for that. :)

Same reply really, just keep an eye on her during the night, but it sounds like the worst is over now!
She'll have found something toadlike or similiar to play with and overstayed her welcome with it a bit too long!!
I hope she's fully recovered very soon!

shes such a fraud.... :D

shes absolutely fine this morning :D (thank god). Shes just back to normal so i took her tatton park as she loves it there and shes all good :)

thanks everyone for the help last night - much appreciated :)
