As above - long story short - i bought a horse lasy year for me and my daughter to share.
Daughter had had the lessons, i was just hoping to hack out now and again.

Daughter got fed up - id fallen in love so started lessons so I could ride him.

Friends etc takes horse out etc and all say how good and brave he is - im still stuck in the school and honestly am so so bored with it.

My horse napped - now i feel confidnet in controlling him, he halts perfectly whenever asked - we have never cantered - done rising to the diagonal and now doing leg yields.

Thing is - ive to force myself to go in the school to practice, its just so so boring and im getting fed up now. And my poor horse hates it.

From beginning ive asked my instructor to let me know when we are ready to hack out but i think my confidence has grown now and i really want to go

Sorry, whinging post - but im paying so much for this horse and weekly lessons but quite frankly I and he getting bored!
 
Well, how about if you try just a short, safe hack with a friend and a horse who you know is steady? Or, maybe ask your instructor why they think you're not yet ready for a hack?
 
and i want to canter!!!!!!!!!!! i asked my i9nstructor how you know when your ready and she said its when you feel you are?????????
I want to know how to ask fo rit and how to sit in it ????
Am i being a whingy cow???

ps - im all grown up so honest answers wont kill me lol - i wonder myself if im asking too much too soon xxxx
 
Have you got a friend with a nanny horse who could go out with you??

I learned to ride out hacking, in a very dodgy hacking centre that used to import ponies for Poland and Ireland.....!!

I think i will have to - dont get me wrogn my instructor is fabulous and me and my horse have both come on so much but honestly, i am sick of going round and round
 
tbh, whilst its great your seeking advice from a good inst etc etc, you obviously know when things feel safe and right and it sounds to me your ready for something new. that doesnt mean you abandon lessons and learing but you sound ready to incorporate something else into it...like hacking!!!!!

I have, another livery is very very experienced , has a perfect horse and has said i can go anytime but i was waiting till my instructior said we were ready.
Thing is I dont want to risk my horse, put him in danger - how do you know when you are ready?
you wouldnt take a car out till you,d passed your driving test is what im thinking - but ont eh other hand, i feel ready and if i go in that school one more time this week i will loose the will to live!!!!
 
What is the area like around your stables? is there safe tracks/fields to ride around? if there is I would sugest going for a quiet amble with a friend on accompanying.
I would question your instructor and why they think you aren't ready to canter/hack yet - I would expect an adult to be ok after 6 months easily unless there is a specific fear or the horse isn't to be trusted.

thanks clair - yep i think so too - 3 months ago i wouldnt have been paid to take him out lol but now i feel really really ready
I wont give up my lessons but i am going to ask the other livery who i trust implicitally if we can hack out with her - i know if there are any doubts she will say no (she adores horses so wouldnt put my horse at risk).

Thats the problem - to get to any decent hacking you have to cross leeds inner ring road, all exits are straight onto this ring road which can have fast traffic - this is why i was so worried - if a horse bolted out of the lane onto the ring road - doesnt bare thinking about x

But he has gone out - with other riders who all say he was good as gold, plus he always halts immediateley in the school
 
Not read all the replies, so forgive any repetition :D

If you feel ready for a canter in the school, do it. Tell your instructor that you want give it a go :)

If you don't have a friend to hack down the road with, get someone to walk with you (on a lead rein if you'll be more comfortable).

As to the school - poles on the ground, cones to go round, tarpaurlin to stand on - lots to do :D
 
thanks mrs m - my hubby has said he will lead us out on a lead rope at least till we cross the road and get into happy hacking land - omg i cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!
idea is hubby will wait at entrance - near main road - lead us over, then we can go off and have fun while hubby goes to local pub - i will text when we are approaching ring road on way home - he will come to meet us - result!!!!!!!!!!!!
