Hiya,

my horse is having 3 courses of Tildren over 6 weeks (1 lot every 2 weeks) and his blood tests have just come bk with abnormal white blood cell count and liver function. could this be due to the Tildren? the bloods were taken either just before or just after his 2nd treatment (guessing just before).

thanks xx

You might find this link useful

From that information it would appear unlikely that your abnormal bloods would be related to the Tildren, but as this is a relatively new drug then I don't think anything could be ruled out 100%.
Do you have any pre-tildren bloods to compare to?
What does your vet say?
Personally I think it is most likely the results are due to something unrelated.

well he's off for 3 months anyway and the vet has said she wouldn't be happy for him to start work with his bloods like that so we have 2 choices- leave him resting and hope it sorts itself out or look into it now. either way it will need to be looked into before Jan when he starts work again.

Looked into this type of drug use in Humans and it can affect production of T cells which affects immune system... could this then affect white blood cell count??? guess work here.

Tildren has been around for quite some time, but is only in the last 12 or so months that its had a liscense in the Uk.

It can be related to liver damage - but generally there has to have been some for of damage first (not to a large extent). It also depends as to which liver readings are up as to what sort of effect it can have. As the liver is regenerating and Tildren does not last in the system long term its generally ok.
