Could someone tell me the correct rider/horse attire for a concours d'elegance class including what type of boots I have to wear? I'm off to do my first show sideways and I don't want to look like a muppet!!

Thanks

is it costume concours or normal concours? if normal should be smart habit, either dark - black or blue, or tweed.

depending onthe time of day and your habit depends on bowler/top hat etc.

What are you wearing??

I wear navy breeches under my habit due to my habit being blue, looks better than a flash of cream jods. Also I wear long black boots with NO laces, they have to be spotless.

For costume it depends on the costume but black ankle length victorian boots are usually worn i think???

I haven't done sidesaddle for years and years (practically back when it was normal for ladies to ride aside!), but for concours classes it used to be the done thing to wear a full face veil with the top hat, dark breeches, brown gloves, single spur and plain cane.

As above, but cream gloves look better with a nice cream/champagne stock if you have a top hat. Technically, you should also have a garter strap on left boot (or may even be both boots, not sure but the other wouldn't show even if you look beneath habit) with a top hat. That's more for equitation, though, where there is a more detailed inspection of attire.

Bowler hat would be brown gloves and tie. :o)

Top hat is only correct if the horse is in a double/pelham bridle, and the rider is in a black or navy habit.
For concours d'elegance time of day is irrelevant to wearing of a top hat.
