Hi everyone,
My 13.2hh 19 yr old appaloosa cross has sidebone.
One of his fetlocks has fused but the other one hasnt.
Once the other one has fused and he is sound can i still jump him on a surface? He loves to jump and it would be such a shame to stop competing him.
Has anyone ever had the same experience?
Thanks

once the bone has finished forming and he's sound, you should be fine to jump him on a surface - listen to him - he'll tell you if he's uncomfortable :)

A good few years ago my horse was diagnosed as having sidebone. She was lame for a while but when she became sound I never had any further problems with it and jumped and rode just as usual. I had her until she was 21 until I sold her. Hope everything works out ok.
