Hello,

Does anyone here ride sidesaddle? I have always wanted to give it a try, but can't find anywhere to go to try it.

Do you have to re-introduce your horse to a sidesaddle or do you ride pretty much the same way (as far as the horse is concerned)?

Does anyone know of anyone/where that teaches sidesaddle?

or just about any info would be good

Thanks :)

There was an article in H&H recently on riding sidesaddle and it mentioned a website which might be of use to you. It might be worth doing a search. :)

The Side Saddle association is a good place to start. They have a list of trainers. i have a side saddle & have trained many horses to go in it. Most have taken to it but not all. The 2 things they have to get used to is the lack of a right leg & the rear balance strap. If that is not fitted correctly it can act as a bucking strap!
Otherwise you sit with your weight equally balanced on each side & you can do everything in a side saddle that you can astride.
Yes you can still fall off - i have :) but on the whole i feel pretty secure.
The above article also mentioned a couple of places that hire saddles so you can try before you buy, as there are not a lot of them floating about & they are pricey :)
Good luck & have fun.

I do it, i love it and compete my mare side saddle (she actually goes better)

You should contact the side saddle association and they will give you all the information you need, they can tell you all the instructors in your area.

Good luck!!!

Also they would be able to tell you if there was anyone in your area who hires side saddles out, which is what i did. i feel more secure side saddle and despite my hrose bucking the height of herself at some shows didn;t fall off thankfully :-)
