An opportunity for all you lot who keep yours at home or on tiny private yards to feel smug. This week I have had to deal with:

Someone breaking my storage box and not owning up;

YM getting snappy with me over storage of a big round bale of hay I had to buy because the yard haylage is giving my horse the squits;

Nasty, orange, bratty child and her hatchet-faced mother throwing hissy fit temper tantrums because I suggested it wasn't a good idea for them to gate crash my indoor school slot (which I had ALREADY agreed to share with someone else) and actually stick with her slot an hour later;

A wooden 5-bar gate being left flat on the ground in my field - I turned my horse out in the pitch dark this morning and only realised it was there, part hidden in the grass, when he spooked at it. YM did not seem to give two hoots when I told her and suggested the chaps doing the fencing must have 'left it there'...;

There, just had to vent... ***breathes***

I actually really do love my yard, we have fabulous facilities, (mostly) lovely people and amazing hacking etc, but I would have sold my soul this week to be able to keep my horse at home :D

Oh bless you!! I can understand where you are coming from..... you have grass in the field!! LOL.

Smile it is nearly the shortest day and then spring comes :O)

Ah, you are so right - my field DOES have grass, unlike many that I am aware of - thank you for pointing out the silver lining on my cloud!!! :D

Onwards and upwards to summer :)

I'm with you...I'm avoiding my yard as much as possible at the moment because I'm going to blow if I hang around!! I know it will improve but it's just one of those months!! Actually decided I'm going to move them to a friends fields for a month and hope the YO will keep my stables for me (obviously I'll pay) just to have a break from the place.

cobgirlie I know how you feel. I think cabin fever is just building up and people are going a bit loco.
If you can get away for a bit, I bet you will really appreciate your yard when you come back and so will your horse. As they say, a change is as good as a holiday...

I am at a very nicely organised, clean and tidy, 365 day turnout, 24/7 only in summer, tons of grass, competition yard and the owners are great with all the facilities e.g. walker, 2 outdoor arenas, 2 indoor arenas, hay and woodchip, tiny bit of off road hacking. The problem i have is i no longer need the arenas, i need lots of hacking due to arthritis sustained from trauma (struck by a motor bike before i got him) hence scared of noisy traffic, overweight as is a cob so would rather have a field with no grass in (not possible) and it takes me 30mins to get there and 30mins to get back, so leaves me very rushed for time to do what i need to do before starting work at lunch time. It also costs me £150 a month in fuel which is nearly the cost of another livery. I am considering moving really close to home, like 5min walk away which has no facilities but a lovely wooden stable newly built, supply my own bedding and hay, no turn out as the fields have already been let. I was thinking as i will have more time i will be able to ride for longer, lead him out to eat grass which will also restrict his intake of grass, but he will be out of his box more than what he is at current yard and i wont have the fuel costs. The owners are going to be a bit peed with me for moving but i have to think of what is best for me and my boy, does anyone else agree with me.
