Dylan is half whippet, a quarter greyhound and a quarter saluki. He suffered from delayed post operative bleeding some years ago after surgery. He is now 12 and a few weeks ago there was fresh blood on his bed in the morning. I made an appointment with our vets but no more bleeding occurred so I cancelled the appointment. This morning he wiped his nose on a sofa cover and left fresh blood on it which was coming from his right nostril. It was only a slow drip and stopped quite quickly. I am obviously going to book him in at the vets In the morning. I am aware it may be caused by a foreign body or a tumour but suspect it may be related to the previous post operatve bleeding. Does anybody have a sighthound with a bleeding disorder? How do you manage it? What are the symptoms in your dog and can medication help with random bleeding?

My greyhound is a delayed 'bleeder' after surgery as well, he has to have tranexamic acid before/during/after tooth extractions etc. It's a scary thing.

Like Annette I've got no advice but hope you get an answer from the vets to put your mind at ease soon x

Dylan has had an x-ray of his head and the vet has done a laparoscopy. Neither showed any major problems but an area of the sinus looked redder than normal, the procedure did not even provoke any bleeding as the vet had feared. We are to keep him on the Tranexamide for another three weeks, gradually tapering the dose down and hope the bleeding does not start again. I am updating in case anybody is in the same situation one day. The blood tests did not point to any particular problems either. We still do not know whether it is the start of something or hopefully the last stage of some damage he may have sustained earlier. We have our fingers crossed that it is the latter, and the washing machine is on stand by. Blood from a nose bleed sprayed by a dog shaking his head can reach far and wide as I found out.
