Sign the No to HS2 Petition! (High speed railway - nothing to do with HS1 hats!)

Ive signed!! I live in birmingham along the proposed route, they want to build a station at the end of the road!

If they do go ahead and build it I can only hope that it will make my flat worth a bit more being commutable to london but only if the noise isnt too bad!!

I really sympathise with those who will loose land and businesses because of it and i think its a complete waste of money! Billions to shave off a small amount of time to get to London. Rubbish!!
 
I'm afraid that you'll all be wasting your time as this project will go ahead now - regardless. They've been pussyfooting about deciding shall we / shant we have a second high speed rail line and now that's all behind and all the big boys are looking forward to actually building it - all you can hope to do in local aggitation is to modify the impact slightly.

It's exactly like the M25 - public enquiries, local forums, consultations - while all the time only one route was ever surveyed properly with soil investigations - and that, surprise, surprise was the route the builders took.

All those hoping to influence the railway folk with fears of under use and no economic reason to build HS2 would do well to remember what was said about the M25 - it would be a big white expensive elephant no one would use but here we are with it widened twice and still jammed every morning and evening. Rising diesel costs are steadily making the case for rail transport of heavy goods again and it will only need the government to make slight alteration to the road taxes for lorries to hammer in the last nails.
