Dear forum members we need your help.

The Countryside Alliance has launched a Rural Manifesto which has been well received by politicians as we move towards the next General Election. In the wide-ranging manifesto, we are calling on the next government to ensure country pursuits receive a fair and balanced hearing in Parliament and public and for the Hunting Act to be repealed as a crucial step in showing that a future Government is receptive to the voice of rural communities.

The Hunting Act is a unique piece of legislation in that its effects are entirely negative.
It diminishes respect for Parliament, it puts law abiding people at risk of prosecution, it diverts police attention and resources from real crime and it brings no benefit to the environment. What it is an excellent example of is pure political prejudice and despite the claims of animal rights activists it does nothing to improve the welfare or conservation of the species it intends to protect. In short, it’s a bad law and being increasingly recognised as so – even police guidance now states that enforcing the Act is a low priority. The Act must be scrapped so a logical, sensible and fair solution to managing wildlife populations can replace the current situation. The Countryside Alliance is leading the campaign for repeal. On a practical note, the Alliance also provides most competitive and comprehensive countrysports insurance package, covering equine activities, on the market – so make sure you get covered before the start of the hunting season. Individual membership of the Countryside Alliance is just £52, that’s just one pound a week.

We will continue to engage and inform the media, public and all politicians and campaign for repeal. Signing up to our Rural Manifesto doesn't cost anything and will strengthen the chances of achieving our goals. So please, go to countryside-alliance.org.uk and click on the Rural Manifesto button, or call 020 7840 9242 for a Rural Manifesto postcard and by signing up to our Rural Manifesto you will be joining the hundreds of thousands who have already pledged their support.

Kindest regards

I want to see this repealed, but I suspect that the incoming Conservative government will have several years worth of higher priority legislation to get through to clear up the mess left by the current incumbents. I would give it a minimum of 6 years after the election (i.e. 2016) before they have time to get around to this.
