Signalling left...

Hi
I was wondering how you signal left when leading a pony in-hand on the road. It is difficult to swap the reins and whip into the other hand, and I don't think it is anywhere near as noticeable as using the right hand to signal turning right.
So is there a knack or official way to doing it, or should I just try to be as noticeable as possible?

The way to do it when driving is to hold your arm out like your signalling right, but then move it in a circular motion from your shoulder if that makes sense, so I would imagine it's the same for leading
