Unless the price of the unwashed sand is considerably cheaper I would ask "why bother to take the risk" The haulage cost is a huge factor and that presumably will be the same. You will certainly be running the risk of having the drainage of the menage compromised. Personally I would stear clear.

unwashed delivered is 11.50 per tonne and £16 per tonne washed

When I was looking at putting in a rubber and sand menage I was told to only use equestrian quality sand which is only available from a couple of quaries. Having taken this advice I have not had any problems with drainage, etc.
