I budget for and know exactly what the pony costs me but I’ve never done the same for the cats before, I just kind of pay out for what they need.
I’ve just sat and added all that up and now I need a lie down in a darkened room.
£230 a month for 2 puss cats. My pony costs less than that

I tell myself that knowledge is power! Doesn’t make it any easier to know that with food, litter, tablets, and arthritis treatments, it adds to £360/month for 1 dog, 2 cats, and 1 rabbit.

I miscalculated. £220 a month not £230, I’ll take it.
Food is quite a small amount - £70.
In fairness, itchy cat is £60 a month in his meds. The rest is cat litter, insurance, then things like flea treatment, a bit to one side for vaccinations etc.
Trust me I keep looking at it thinking that can’t be right ?

if not already, id switch to grain free food and see if itchy cat stops itching saving you 60 quid a month. My dog and 1 cat was itchy, switching completely grain-free helped solve it for them both

I am in double figures for feral cats.
Everyone is neutered so numbers are stable... er no... the other morning a new little face was lined up with the others.
I just sighed and opened another sachet of Felix.
I love your ferals! (My autocorrect changed that to Gerald - a name for the newbie perhaps?! Not as pretty as the rest of their names mind!)

Already on grain free food but thankyou. He has various allergies which are controlled with a mix of steroids and a vaccine that was made based on the things he’s allergic to. In an ideal world the vaccine would be enough but it’s not quite, hence the steroids too. And of course, because he was a stray and turned up with bad skin it’s not covered on insurance, c’est la vie!

We have used Apoquel for years for a dog with multiple allergies. I know it is not actually licensed for cats but it can be used if your vet agrees. It works amazingly well and should be a lot cheaper than the vaccine plus steroids. Our dog had this kind of treatment to start with but it became ineffective as the allergies multiplied. The Apoquel gave her a normal life overnight.

Thought it worth a mention..shame you have no insurance contribution…their clauses will soon negate anyone bothering to insure! Good luck with him…is he the black and white cat kissing the Dalmatian in your sig pictures?

That’s really interesting, I’ve not heard of that before. His itching/hair loss is reduced but not completely removed on his current regime, he’s due a check up at the RVC soon so I will definitley ask them about this, thankyou

To be fair, I can understand them not covering it, it happened before he was insured. They have paid out on his heart murmur so it was worth insuring him still (why do my animals always ensure I am on first name terms with vets?!)
The black and white cat was my old boy, Oscar, truly one of the best cats ever.
This one is Stanley, he’s grey and white. He turned up on our driveway one night a few weeks after losing Oscar and despite attempts to find his owners, we weren’t able to find them so he stayed!

And Frank came along as a pre-planned purchase a few months later
