My pony has never been fantastic to load, but he always went in after a few tries. We switched from a trailer to a lorry a while ago and he was the same to load, reluctant but would go in after a few attempts. A few weeks ago we took him to a Pony Club rally and he loaded ok to get there but when we tried to load him up to go back home he was having none on it. We tried everything and after about an hour we fetched some help and a lunge whip was waved at his bum and he went in on the 2nd try. Ever since then he's refused to be loaded but me and my sister have been loading him all last week and he was going in after a few minutes. Today me and my mum tried to load him as we have another PC rally tomorrow. It was really windy and he refused to load again! He'd get all the way up, we'd try to turn him round to tie him up and he just rushed back out backwards. He even kept going straight of the side of the ramp which is quite steep. It's a wonder he didn't really hurt himself and in the end we tried a short whip and gave him a tap on the rug which didn't work. Resorted to a lunge whip being held on the side that he kept going off as a guide. After a few tries he loaded up but only when we turned him all the way round instead of pushing his bum round. We loaded him a few more times with him going in straight away

Only problem is is that if he messes around like he did today then we'll miss the rally and might even have to consider selling the lorry

Any tips, I don't like having to use a lunge whip

If that worked, can you find a couple old lunge lines or two lengths of soft rope with clips on the end, to use as guides.
One each side, then if you can find an extra helper, one on each, hold the end not clipped to the lorry and 'funnel' him up the ramp, then walk round the ramp, to cross over and hold them firm across the open back of the lorry until you have the partition in place.
If only one to lead and one to help, park lorry with one side against a building or fence.
Good luck.

I know it sounds REALLY obvious, but have you tried taking all the partitions back and feeding him at the back of the lorry every day?? Put bedding on the ramp and in the lorry and coax him in then let him stand and eat, then unload him. He should soon be loading calmly.
