Well a mate rode ebs for me today and we took her outside again and shes turned very naughty, bolting at every chance refusing to walk on the track on the outside of the school. getting very strong head so high its stupid
naughty cripple  got on and she seem to after 10mins calm down but she will either canter full speed or be a nob and not canter probally at all?
i dont understand whats up? iv changed her feed her fast fiber so thats got no energy in it? but now seems to have more energy! i took away the martingale and she was getting less hollow i was thinking [lunging a bit with side reins]but no i dont understand?
could it just be her being a silly idoit this week? or the feed?
im sure its not her arthitis as i know shes much more slow and stiff as shes sore so i doubt its that

i think it would be abit strange for it to be the feed as u said u have gone from an energy feed to a no enrgy feed so i dnt think that that couuld caused the problem, How old is the pony? Have u had teeth checked recently and does the saddle fit correctly? due to this so called bolting and going hollow could be a side effect from an ill fitting saddle or have a sore mouth but then if itz just recently started to happen in the last week or so then i waz thinkin is the pony clipped out? due could be slightly cold backed when tacked up and first mounted plus some horses get excited around this time of year being clipped due to hunting and stuff, also have u changed any other feed like hay to haylage or ne thing? but saying that if u feed haylage ive found in the past each bale differs in the protien content meaning 1 bale can be more high in energy than the last one fed, other than this i dnt no what to suggest sorry.

Sorry hun, I do believe that the majority are giving Katie P a hammering or are bottom licking her beau...youre going to have to wait to be haranged! xx

Hi, was it you who had the fall XC recently? Hope your collarbone is healing if so, broke mine last year so feel your pain!

Did you have Ebs checked out after the fall? Could she be behaving this way because she's in pain? Maybe twisted or pulled something in her back or neck?

To me, running away from you, or not wanting to work, and throwing her head up would all be classic indicators that she's feeling it somewhere.

If you've already had someone out to look at her, I would still explore this option a bit more before dismissing it naughtiness.

Good luck, hope you get back on track :)

LOL yer very true!!!! The other post dont seem to be getting a look in!!!!

Anyway OP- I know your not riding at the mo (well not supposed to be;)) Who is riding her for her, is it one person or different people, she could be getting inconsitant work, or taking the pee out of a slightly novice rider?:)

well shes been riden by two people and she hasnt been cliped yet
and no i havent had her checked shes was completely fine until this week? then she was a bit looney? but i have competely changed the feed over from speedi beet to fast fiber which i find odd as speedi beet has more energy than fast fiber?
all my saddles fit as i had them fitted but you mention her mouth?
she did have a little strop when i was trying to do up the flash of the flash on the grackle? maybe her teeth need some looking at but then again shes eating perfectly?

Start with the teeth if she isnt happy and elimate that, have you seen her on the lunge, whats she doing on that is she showing any pain resistance on that might give you an idication to whats goingon!!!:)

Hmmm. I remember the pictures you posted of the fall, it looked quite nasty?

She may well have twinged something, and be feeling it even more now it's colder and taking longer to warm up.

I would be getting her checked out before doing anything else :)

lunged her quite a few times last week
perfect and moving nicely and doing what i asked of her? but thinking of it she wasnt having alot of this new feed?
might aswelll ring the denist too :p

And shez not bein over fed or ne thing if u have two ppl riding her? yea it mite b worth just gettin her teeth checked out as she could have a couple of hooks or sharp edges starting to form on her teeth which wnt normally show with eating untill severe n causing the horse pain to move itz mouth or it could just be that the other rider has possiably tighterned the grackle to tight, hmmmmm this is a very strange 1 2 actually place a solution but i would suggest keeping an eye on her seein if itz becoming a reguar thing or just a one off thing also if u think her teeth need lookin at then it could b worth doing .

yeah its worth getting it checked :)
and well shes gets rode for like 30mins a day plus and is on
nearly 31/2 scoops alfa a oils
2 scoops of mix
1 1/4 fast fiber
[thats both feeds btw dont just one lol] x

Im guessings thats 3 and 1/2 scoops of alfa oil!! hehe ;):D

Yer may be worth getting her checked, but to be honest if she is moving well on the lunge but not with a rider it may be them, how good are the people riding her and is she like it with both of them.

ou say you lunged her before her "silly" behaviour this week, but had she actually been ridden? It is very very possible that only the weight of the rider could be making any back pain become apparent.

Have to say... That is a HUGE amount of feed you are giving her! (and only splitting that amount into 2 feeds could be considered quite dangerous. A horses stomach isn't that big).

well shes getting
dinner
1 3/4 alfa a oils
1 mix
3/4 fast fiber
supplements ect

breakfast is
1 1/2 scoops alfa a oils
1 mix
1/2 fast fiber
supplements ect

she loses weight so quickly
and yeh best get the backman too

Gosh that is a lot of feed but good you're opting for a high fibre high oil diet rather than pumping her full of starch. Rather than splitting into mix and fast fibre have you tried Calm and Condition, I found it really useful last winter.

Given her XC fall I'd be getting her back checked by a physio. Sometimes these back issues can gradually manifest over time and it's always good for them to have a nice physio session to loosen those muscles off. As others have mentioned, it would be worthwhile getting teeth checked too - that way you can start ticking all of the boxes off and get to the bottom of any naughtiness issues. I think you can only really address the behaviour when you've ruled out any pain causes, after all if you try to work through them when she is in pain, you could create even more problems for yourself.

I'm sure once you've given her a quick MOT that you'll be back on track in no time.

Hi, If she isnt doing much at the mo Id knock the mix on the head. My 16.2 gets 2 scoops of hifi, 1/3 scoop mix and 1/2 scoop hi fibre cubes between 2 feeds. Mix can send him do lally as can Alfa A. I have to be careful what I feed.
Not saying it is pain related but one of my past horses who was a forward going mare suddenly changed. She jogged everywhere and started doing mini rears. At first I thought she was naughty but it turned out it was Navicular. Please dont think Im suggesting its this but maybe shes feeling a bit sore with the arthritis especially as the weathers suddenly gone colder. Just a thought??

yes well ill down the mix then :p lol thanks
and yes ill get denist and pysho and if its none of them then ill know its arthitis but see i know shes the opasit of this shes slow adn not willing to work when shes sore coz of that but will see
thanks alot x
