Silly post -about apples!

Well this horse just about takes the biscuit!!!Have had him about 11 months now... and we love him .......But as is our regular eve routine.. we do last stables around 10 ish. All horses/ponies get a nice 'tesco value' apple... and a goodnight pat... but this horse.... Well.
He's a very handsome ex-racer and has very smart parents.. and I think he knows it!!! Tesco value... PAH!! The only apple (and I really mean the only) that he likes// is Pink Lady!!! Well I did say he was quite posh!
Anyone else with this kind of thing ????!!!!!

Not quite as select:) but the old Appy could not have apples that were too green, as they made her mouth froth and she didn't like them, would spit the froth at you! We always had to get red apples for her

yep, pony at my old riding school would only eat fresh apples, nothing precut and he would eat all sorts really, though i think preferably red, but would pull facesif he didnt like it lol

my friends mare only likes golden delicious and very occasionally pink lady. Otherwise she spits it out....right at you

Oh yes. My old TB girlie only likes red apples - with a preference for Pink Lady too, although Empire are also just about acceptable.
But in her feed - apples are not welcome - it MUST be carrots.

Hmmmm... I see a common theme here about Pink Lady... must find out what they have that is so special... I wonder if its acceptable under jockey club rules !!!???

One lady at my old yard, used to feed merlin pink lady apples over the fence. But it hasnt spoilt him for everyday apples!!

he will still eat anything.

My kids like pink lady the best.... so they must be nicer than the others in some way!!

Funny but so true

I'm sure mine knows if you buy cheapy apples she refuses to eat them! Sometimes my mum saves the old ones that are starting to go off and she wont eat them either lol

Mind you when it comes to polos mine knows how many is in a packet and if she doesnt get the full amount she doesnt stop kicking the door until she has finished them

Mine pick the apples off the trees - including cooking apples - yuck. They also pick pears and plums.

I had pruned (with their help) all the orchard trees so that they were out of pony reach which helped limit their intake but when we moved up to the horses of course they could reach higher up the trees.

When we first had our horse I don't think he'd ever had treats! He didn't know what to do with apples, mints, anything like that. He'd have them in his mouth for a moment & then drop them. No such worries now..... apples, pear, carrots, XXXmints, he eats the lot.

Mine will only eat Royal Gala apples - i think it's because they are sweet plus sometimes I'm lucky as if they are in season they use them in the Tesco value bag!!

Miss Delia, a very well bred TB I had was the same. All apples must be red and very sweet - I had to taste them first.

She was such an old snob and would not take the apple from the cleaner where she used to kept.

She also only liked white bread, preferably with a little butter - brown or grained bread was for common folk.

My hairy cobs wolf down apples in any shape or form and also clean up all the kitchen veggie scraps and bread - apart from scones which they both won't touch.

Nope...he's just a greedy scrubber, I hate to say it guys but he'd eat his own sh*t if you fet it to him!
