What got me wondering was how much Willow is now worth? Should I change her insurance value?

So shes currently 11 months old. IDxTB - sire Primitive Star (Primitive Rising) dam by Darcy Dancer. Shes due to make 16.2/16.3hh. Is the most aimiable girl ever and is so well behaved its great. Has done pretty much everything so far - great in traffic incl artic lorries, clipping, loading, etc
Ive taken her to 2 shows so far - she came 2nd at Leicester County show in the ID sports horse class and won the yearling hunter at Newark & Notts.

any help greatly appreciated.

I expect it has cost a lot to breed her and raise her and I would say she is worth about £2000 at her age but will increase as she gets older to about £4000 to £5000 when broken and starting to compete.
For insurance I expect you want it for vets fees mainly so keep it quite low and the premiums won't be too high

Your youngster looks really lovely and has done well showing. You need to look to see how much you would have to pay to replace her. Bit difficult just from ads and photos but that would be the way to go.

However - if you increase her value for insurance purposes then you pay a higher premium and really (hopefully ) the only cover you need is vets fees. You would be incredibly unlucky to have her die or be stolen - unless you have her down for loss of use - that would be different. Also you would need to justify the increased value to the insurance company - dont know how you do that. Discuss it with them.

Considering Primitive Star's recent success' and that he is a popular sire and with her own showing record, then I'd say upwards of £4K

thanks for that Sue. Yes it is difficult from photos alone but I suppose if the insurance co wanted proof then I would get someone to write a letter stating her current value?

agreed.

thanks Claire - im so proud of my little baby, but didnt know how much she would be worth - suppose shes only worth what someone would pay for her?

thanks RHT - maybe I should increase her value just in case - just that I lost out majorly on Ebi as she wasnt insured for her full value which meant I couldnt replace her with the money I got (luckily I had another horse but if I didnt it wouldve been a problem)
