Silly Question About Clipping

Sorry, bit of a silly question but I'm planning to clip my mare relatively soon coming in for the warmer weather (hopefully).

Question is, I want to avoid using a neck attachment on her rug as much as possible as her mane rubs out so easily. If her neck is clipped out fully or even a mid to high trace or irish clip, would this make a lot of difference body temperature-wise or would you use a neck attachment if any part of the neck is clipped out?

All mine (clipped) have their necks on their rugs folded back at night to allow the mane to breathe, only keep them on in the field so their necks don’t get plastered in mud.

They will be fine without necks, even if you just put them on at night and detach them in the day. The weathers warming up now anyway x

I've had horses clipped with and without necks on their rugs- I tend to use a neck if I want them clean, or if they're difficult to keep condition on.
If you have a good doer I wouldn't worry about a neck on the rug. You could always put a slightly heavier weight rug on if you were worried.

Mine doesn't have a rug on and most of his neck is clipped out.

I full clip and leave off the neck rug on all but the most miserable cold days. I just put a slightly warmer rug on to combat the uncovered neck

Its funny because mine has a neck on her rugs pretty much all through winter 24/7 and she's never had a rubbed mane...I think it depends on the rug brand and the weight of it too!

When I got my first pony there were no necks on rugs and they all coped jut fine in their waxed new zealands and wool blankets!

I was about to say exactly the same. Neck covers are a fairly ' modern' idea

Mine live out 24/7 and have irish clips, with full neck removed, they've been in 50g rugs, without necks all winter. I upped them to 100g with necks when it got really cold but they've both been fine! I guess it depends on your horse, both of mine run hot, but at this time of year, I don't see that you should have an issue! it might go cold for a few hours overnight but as long as its not freezing all night, they should be fine! obviously depends on the horses weight too, if its skinny you might need a warmer rug.
