Hi everyone,
I am no longer at a livery yard and am hoping to have a few more lessons at a yard with school down the road, I went once before but Jasper spent nearly the whole lesson neighing! When we went to our first 2 shows earlier this year he neighed a few times in the W+T dressage test. Also, this winter I am hoping to box to an indoor school every week but am wondering whether to take the shetland as company or will that make the whole thing worse? Has anyone else had this? Do they eventually settle down neighing? He's stopped neighing out on hacks on our own now..

Im sure he will settle the more he goes out. i wouldnt take the shetland because you will find that in the future if you want to take him out on his own somewhere he won't go!then you will be in a pickle! My mare used to do the same when we moved yards, and its so annoying, but the way I got around it was to keep here busy and her mind on the job, lots of transistions, halts and turn on the forehands in the school so she didnt winnie at every horse around the school!

It's just a bit of anxiety hun. They call to see if there's any other neds around to keep them company and thus keep them safe from the slavering wolves, tigers and crocodiles that haunt showgrounds lol. If you take his wee companion, he'll probably just call to him when he's moved away so unless you can manage your dressage test with a Shettie on a lead rein beside you, just work on building his confidence! As he gets more used to it he should settle but otherwise just ignore it and keep loving him to bits so he can feel happy that being with you is twice as good as being with another ned and that you will always, always keep him safe from tigers and woves and crocodiles x
