Ok, I spoke to the person who I'd be able to get lifts with today and that's all fine, and my instructor seems rather insistant that I join!

I summed up the negative and positive points and to hell with it, I might as well become a pony clubber!

BUT

Last time I joined, I remember having to buy PC sweatshirts/polo shirts, a new hat etc..... can anyone hep me out with what I will actually NEED for certain?

ie.
1. My hat that I usually ride/compete in doesn't have all the things that PC request - guessing I need to wear my skullcap/eventually buy a new hat for dressage etc? (I hate wearing my skull cap!)

2. If I ever compete, will PC allow me to use my grey jacket for dressage?

3. What do you /need/ as far as PC polo shirts/sweatshirts/coat? for rallies etc. Can you wear just any coat?? My friend has one with the branches name & the logo and stuff on, but do you have to have one? (I'm nesh - I WILL need to wear a coat 90% of the time!)

4. Anything I'm not thinking about already??

Hat will need to apply with rules so stick with your skull hat (this will need to be tagged at your first rally)
Of course you can wear grey jacket
At my PC it is not essential you wear the stuff with the emblem on, just a jumper of the same colour
Your badanges should be fine, depending on how strict your branch is.
Which branch is it?

Enjoy!

Bandages should be fine, the hat rules are stringent for a good reason so its a good idea to have a hat thats what they want (especially for XC anyways) and if you look smart (dark coat/ gilet, cream jods, clean boots and neutral numnahs/ tack and a dark jumper in the colour of your branch- ie ours is navy blue, others may be green, red or yellow.

Have fun- PC was such an amazing time for me, and my sister still loves it.

Branch rules vary a bit - ours says you have to wear a hacking jacket for rallies, but you can wear the sweatshirt for practices, at camp etc, whereas a lot of branches allow you to wear the branch sweatshirt for rallies. You will definitely need to buy your branch sweatshirt, but the other branch clothing, such as the branch named jackets, are optional.

Most branches like plain tack and clothing (numnahs/saddlecloths should be brown, white, navy or black with no logos) - but some are stricter than others. I know our DC would not approve of turquoise bandages!

It is definitely worth joining though, despite the rules and regulations. My daughter has been a member now for about four years and it has transformed her riding and given her access to training that we could not otherwise afford.

This is not essential for all branches. I just wore a plain black jumper for pc rallies (branch colour was black)
It might be worth phoning your branch and fininding out the branch colour and whether a pc jumper is essential.

Thanks everyone!
Tis East Cheshire I will be joining

I'm sure I can beg a new hat off someone for my birthday! Most of the Charles Owen hats are kite marked etc to PC standards aren't they??

And I'm fairly certain that I do have /some/ nice plain tack somewhere

I even have a non-blingy browband I think! If I can remember where it is

I'm sure we'll work it all out eventually...

Thanks again!

If it is East Cheshire then the bling is definately out! Iwas a member of East Cheshire and also another Cheshire Pony Club. It is not long that they have been allowing people to wear sweatshirts at rallies rather than jackets. From memory the sweatshirts aren't that expensive and I think if you don't have one you will have to wear your jacket to all rallies

Will probably buy a sweatshirt anyway but not a polo shirt (you'd never see it, I have to wear about 16 layers to cope with the cold in summer, never mind winter!) and just get a blue one... Don't fancy having to wear my jacket all the time!

Just angry that I sold my old EC PC sweatshirt a few months ago

I used to be a member, but only ever did mounted games and 1 rally

(and that was a few years ago

The dress code is both for safety & smartness and is actually quite fun, my daughter and I improved our turn out skills considerably from being a right couple of scruffbags! Also,on the plus side, my daughter made some really good friends, had a great time, learnt loads and gained confidence/knowledge in both riding & handling her pony/horse, even taking our warmblood (who has some real issues) to camp last summer.
