Just read the devastating news about Lucinda Russell's Silver by Nature ( Tonto). Apparently he broke a leg on the gallops. Just want to say how sorry I am. He was such a lovely horse and such a gallant racehorse. Beautiful tribute by Lucinda on her website. My sincere sympathy to all at the yard, and of course to his owners. He sounded a very special horse. RIP Silver By Nature, Run free x

I totally agree with everything you say merrymeasure, he was always was one my favourite racehorses, on his day he took some beating but he always tried his best. A huge loss to the yard who held him in such high regard, he will be very sadly missed, sympathies to all who were involved with him.

Lucinda Russel has had more than her fare share of tragedy to contend with, as have her staff, one of whom is amongst us, and over the last couple of years. I expect that she pinches herself in the mornings.

Sad news indeed.

Alec.

Tonto was a legend in his own lifetime! His huge heart and courage of a lion is why he stood out from the crowd more so than his colour. A more genuine, kind natured, gentle beast you will never find.

R.I.P. My big friend, you gave us all so very very many good times!

RIP Silver By nature, my heart goes out to all involved with this special boy. i was there when he was 2nd in the welsh national and he ran a blinder! and then when he won at Haydock next time out was just fantastic. i can remember being at the races quite a few times he ran and he sure turned a lot of eyes! such a sad lose not only to the people closest to him but all his loving fans.
