I'm looking into using this feed with my mare, and was wandering if anyone has used it to help keeping weight on. I really struggle to keep weight on my mare in the winter, but cereal based foods tend to go straight to her head. If you do use it for weight gain which of their feeds do you use.

We feed Simple Systems but ours are all good doers. If you phone them and speak to Jane, Tim or Rachel you will find them exceptionally helpful and no sales pitch either. They have feeds for everything from veterans through to racehorses and everything in between so I am sure they could help.

It is fantastic feed, we would never change to anything else now. The only thing we do differently though is feed Top Spec balancer rather than SS Total Eclipse as the Top Spec is more comprehensive. Other than that can't fault their range. We use the organic salt licks in the field too, they are great.

It's built up weight and muscle nicely on the horses on our yard even the stallion and the stressy one. The total eclipse balancer is what we use to make sure the weight and muscle gain keep going.

Echo ISH_Mad, would never change back now - tried going back to D&H Pasture mix, my horse immediately lost the plot again!
Ours are all good doers, and like ISH_Mad again, I use top spec as a broad spectrum balancer as I don't feed even nearly the amount recommended by SS - they wouldn't fit through the field gate if I did!
Friend of mine who had a horse who lost weight much quicker than my lot ever would also swapped to SS and has been very pleased, she even managed to keep her boy out last winter where before she had had to bring him in to feed him up!
Speak to them about what food they recommend - my lot just have luciebix and I add sugar beet in winter, but they ave many different products.

A friend has started using it for the last couple of months with great success.

She too has a mare that goes loopy on any hard feed. She rang up and they advised her what she needed (sorry can't remember what she has) and mare is like a different horse - so calm. They also advised no carrots, apples etc.

I wouldn't easily change now - mine are good doers but they have plenty of products for those needing weight.

Only thing I add is black sunflower seeds, As I feed a lot of brewers yeast for sweet itch prevention and linseed for joints and show bloom I don't feed the total eclipse as the BSS have the benefits for hooves and coats that the seaweed does.

My TB x mare was the same as she got older. I have used SS for the past 3 years with great success. I use sugar beet and lucy nuts bulked out with some ruff stuff or lucy stalks, I also use the total eclipse feed balancer. The great thing about SS is I can use it for all my four, I just change the ratio - ie the young tb has more lucerne nuts, the fatties just have the ruff stuff or lucy stalks and sugar beet.
