I've used Lucie Nuts quite a bit in the past, all my ponies love them and they are very economical to feed. Only reason I stopped feeding them is the logistics! Nearest supplier is half an hour away.
Never fed them any of their other products, I believe the supplements are quite expensive.
I started feeding SS before Xmas. My Ponies are on lucie stalks, lucie fibre cubes, speedibeet and then the supplements differ, the EMS pony is on metaslim the non EMS pony is on total eclipse. Both ponies love the feed, much more than the other stuff I was originally feeding, they are both very well and healthy on it. Yes it's quite expensive and I've been told you can source the ingredients cheaper but I haven't the time to do that and am not an expert in that field so I'll leave that to SS and pay the extra for the service.
My cob HATES the lucie nuts. Have tried & tried but he will not eat them. I still have nearly a whole bag of the blimmin things!
However he loves the lucie stalks and happily munches through them. They are incredibly dry, almost crispy so I also wet his feeds in the morning.
He is on eclipse which is fab but I'm going to switch to buying linseed & brewers yeast separately. The eclipse is just too expensive
I put my two overweight ones on it, a cob and a mini shet. Both lost a lot of coat condition, looked dull and lifeless and really didn't enjoy the food. I ended up giving it away to be honest.
A friend who has a laminitic mare swears by their foods......... she fed her mare on SS (as well as other management regimes put in place plus appropriate farriery) and contrary to all predictions her mare is on the way to making a good recovery.
I'm about to go over to it as I don't like the idea of cereals - in my eyes, microwave meals for horses. Why did I choose SS? I took a good, long, hard look at the horses of my peers and acquaintances, and the ones in "rude condition" it turned out, are all on SS!
Switched my tb on to their feeds about six months ago, am very pleased with the results; his behaviour has def improved, much less argumentative under saddle. He looks fab, lovely shiny coat, good weight. I'm using their Timothy chaff and Total Eclipse and added their grass nuts for over winter but in the summer he just had the chaff and balancer.
I agree with their no sugar/starches philosophy but TBH I can get the equivalent much cheaper. Equibeet and Northern Crop Driers grass nuts do the same, with a decent vit/mineral supplement and/or decent forage, and are significantly cheaper.
