Hiya,

Does anyone feed the simple systems products was recommended them by a friend and was just wondering if anyone thinks they are any good?

Thanks in advance!

I fed them for about a year - and did think they were good, particularly as I wanted to feed as low sugar diet as possible.

However, I struggle to get hold of it locally & had to special order in from a feed supplier - which got to be quite difficult as especially there were quite often delays between the store ordering and it arriving. In the end, I decided it was too much hassle and swapped back to Dengie chaff and feeds, but I would feed SS again if it was easier to get hold of, as I really like the idea of it :)

I had a very similar experience to NPL. Really liked the feed but had a bit of a drive to the feed merchant that stocked it. In the end it was more hassle than it was worth.

Thanks for your responses think I will have a look at how easy it will be to get hold of and see!Just out if interest what products were you feeding??x

I fed the lucie nuts and just grass, and if I wanted a bit more energy I would add the red bag nuts - when I fed simple systems my horses were eventing.

Same for me when I lived in Essex could get it easy but now I dont its not, I used to use rough stuff chaff, lucie nuts and total eclipse, now I use hifi mollasses free pura beet and micronised linseed so still low sugar but not so much alfalfa, I really liked it my Arab did well on it but I think it can work out a bit pricey.

I was feeding Timonthy Chop, Lucie nuts, Lucie Brix and Total Eclipse.

I'm now feeding Dengie Good Doer, Allen & Page Fast fibre, Baileys high fibre cubes & NAF general purpose supplement as a comparison.

I too had to travel to collect or if delivered worked out quite expensive, I've changed over to fast fibre, linseed from Charnwood and then dengie hifi molasses free or redigrass/just grass.

Worked out cheaper and easier to collect from any horse feed merchant.

they run a monthly competition on their website and there is a competition on another website for some ss feed, you may get lucky.

We tried a couple of our horses on it and neither liked it much. Its a bit messy and the products need different soaking times so a faff too. Found it much easier to feed other low sugar/starch products like Alfalfa, fibre cubes, linseed etc which horses prefer.

Me, I do!!!

I feed Blue Bag Grass nuts which are summer value grass nuts - no-one else sells anything like the low energy grass nut value as Simple Systems Blue Bag.

I order 8 bags and then don't pay delivery - £80 minimum order for free delivery. The man in the van comes, drops them off in the garage and I take them up to the yard.

I don't bother with chaff. Mine has unlimited hay at night and is out all day.

I rate them, and mine eats them with no problem, but he does have an issue with too high a protein feed.

I soak the evening feed in the morning and the morning in the evening. Really not very complicated, and not very difficult!!!

I'm the same as the others..liked the products and so did my horses, but I had to order them and pay delivery, so I gave it up. I now use Baileys Lo Cal, Honneychop Oat Staw chaff (Unmolassed, Eureka!!!) and Fast Fibre or Speedibeet made very wet.

I recently started using them for Timothy chop, alfalfa brix, and a few other goodies, I'm in a van delivery area so they deliver direct to my yard which is a godsend, so far all products I've tried have been very good quality and I've been quite impressed by the service.

I used it at the start of the winter found soaking a bit of a faff so tried spillers conditioning fiber and slow release cubes (low starch) recommended from spillers but after a week I changed back as the spillers blew her mind after 2 days we were bronking everywhere.

I would never change from simple systems again it works and it keeps a sane horse and she looks best weight wise on it.

As for purchasing it it is delivered to my door for free from gordon from SS I'm in the midlands.

I really liked the idea of it as a concept but unfortunately TB didn't like it! I fed the blue bag grass nuts, total eclipse and pure alfalfa. Also had some of the top nosh as a top up. Struggled to keep weight on the TB a little though. It does say you can soak the grass nuts or feed dry so, as I'd been soaking and thought perhaps he didn't like sloppy feed, tried feeding dry - he immediatley choked!! Have never known him choke before. Probably just my silly animal but worth taking care if feeding dry

ISH seemed to like it but couldn't be arsed to buy different feeds for the pair of them so have changed!

We feed our 10 horses, from brood mares to youngsters, and all our competition horses with Simple Systems products. All horses do really well, look great, rate it very highly. We feed Lucie Nuts and the Linseed plus haylage. Soaking is easy, not a problem. To this we add Curragh Carron Oil.

Nearly all the horses at our yard are fed SS from dressage and eventing horses down to 30+ year old veterans. They all look great and all live out 24/7 except for two arabs. My mare is 22 and has been on it about 3 years and I love it. (so does she). I soak feed in the evening for the next day so it is not a faff. If needed you can soak quickly with boiling water from the kettle. I emailed them for advice about what to feed her and they were very helpful. I use pura beet in winter and grass nuts (blue bag) and lucie nuts all year round. I also use total eclipse and linseed.

We get ours delivered by van so it is great no trips to the feed merchants and no chance to spend money I haven't got!

I feed lucie nuts ot my WBxTB and she loves it. yes you have to soak it but i have found if you forget you can use boiling water and in about 20 mins or so it is done. If i have forgotten then i boil the kettle, pour it over (ensure lots of boiling water so it can soak up as much as it wants) then by the time you have mucked out, bedded down, hay etc and cleaned out water and got in then it is ready. or get ready before you ride with boiling water and it will be done. Nice an warm too when its cold then,

Hi I love SS however my mare is a poor doer and it does not suit her over winter as volume gets to big and she gets bored. I’m lucky as my local tack shop stocks it but simple systems do free delivery to your front door for orders over £80 which I think works out about what you need to set yourself up and will last for ages so contrary to other peoples thoughts although the outlay might be high as you cant just buy one sack at a time (you need 3-4 products to balance the diet) the consumption is low with sacks often lasting several months. I’m now spending over £100 a month feeding a 15hh TB for condition using what has have turned out to be similar products just in a more condensed form when she would have cost me about £90 over 3 months on simple systems!
