As Daisy says - no you don't have to soak it. I normally soak for only a couple of mins - until they start to go soft, but I also use dry red grass and blue grass nuts in his snack ball and as treats. I soak for a horse that had a tie back op as he can't take dry feeds and I also soak for a fat mare to make the feed as huge as possible and make her think she's getting loads. It takes her an age to eat it
The website and bag are very inconclusive.
Soaking is 'recommended' but they do say 'some horses like it really wet, some really dry'.
Not sure mine will eat it wet, im on the Blue Bag stuff at the mo.
they get used to it. Mine never liked the allen&page C&C soaked so I used to feed her SS unsoaked but she has it soaked just like the others but she does prefer it drier than sloppy. Ive worked out if I soak 1/2 round scoop of red bag grass nuts with 1/2 scoop lucienuts and 1 scoop instant linseed and 1 scoop total eclipse in 2 scoops of water, it is perfect for her - the others dont care as long as theyre getting fed
Mine didn't like it at all to start with, now they can't get enough! Agree about the hot water though - if you use a kettle of boiling water it is totally soaked in less than ten minutes!
When I used SS feeds, I specifically asked about soaking as my mare wouldn't eat any of it (still didn't like it much minus soaking). They told me that whilst they strongly "recommend" soaking, the person that makes their luciebixs feeds them dry and that I could use the nuts in her ball with no problem. Therefore I fed dry with no problems (except horse hated the feeds, lost weight and got very very depressed and lethargic!)
