I buy the occasional one for the adverts if I'm horse/lorry hunting etc. Was thinking of subscribing recently, can't rem why, but bought a 'trial' one & found that there was hardly anything in it. 'Ideal Home' is less than £1 more, & that takes me hours & hours to read!
cant vote really, used to get it every week (not subscribed) but mum put her foot down and said no when it stopped being sold at the co-op near me. loads of shops still have it but not as close as that shop so mum has said no, and since i get £0 off my parents to spend on what i choose i cant buy it for myself!
I have a lovely 'father in law' that gives me his copies once he has read them
I tend to flick through and look at the pretty pictures, read the hunting stories and then turn to the back to decide which horse I want to buy this week!!
I have been taking H&H since the late 1950's, when it was half again as big, completely in black and white and cost around 1/9d (one shilling and ninepence)(approx 8.5p). The average price for a decent horse was about £100 and it included photos of Jenny and Jane Bullen showing their Catherston show ponies, and was published on a Saurday. I don't think I've missed one week since and have withdrawal symptoms if it hasn't arrived at the newsagents when I call in to pick it up.
