I usually go but am working this weekend so no chance (I presume it's at Griff Farm, Rievaulx as usual). I often take 4yos, the ground should be OK, the course is a long way from a BE standard course but perfectly good for a hunter trial. The water is a little bit artificial with a concrete slope in and a step out but I find most horses don't take exception to it. There's also a wall into the trees which can be a bit scary (light into dark) and there might be a fence or two with bright blue barrels or something similar. I usually get a lead round the Nanny and Novice first on the really wobbly ones then send them round the Novice on their own afterwards. In fact my old hunter went round the N&N four times one year with a different baby in tow each time
.
Not a bad little course for babies, don't go expecting Badminton-standards but a good local HT usually.
Its a good, if a little long course ime. Ground can be variable (sometimes round the edge of plough) and having taken my babyish 6 year old in the open, I wouldn't recommend it for a real baby, novice would be more suitable! There are some large ski fences if I remember!!
It is a nice course though, with lots of straightforward fences, think there might be a half coffin? Not the easiest HT, but also not the most technical. Enjoy
Last year there were not too many not many technical fences. An arrow but no corner. Water jump was the biggest challenge for me. Water's a bit murky! Some straw bales looked daunting but were fine, Agree with other comments that the wall is quite challenging into the wood.Tryers is from 10am at Griff Farm (Take Stokesley road out of Helmsley and turn left before Rievaulx) on Sunday 11th. You can enter on the day and do Tryers as a pair or on your own.
