Ohh humm...

I fell off today :o I've had Blade since November and its the first time I fell off him. We were working in the arena, I had been focusing on tranistions from walk to halt, an vice versa, and circling. Had only been in there twenty minutes, but he was being really responsive so I decided to call it a day and end it on a good note.

As I was cooling him down (not that he needed it) I loosened his girth a bit, and two othe girls came into the arena. They were putting a cross pole up so I cut accross the arena so I didnt get in their way.

A bird flew out of the hedge, and all three horses spooked, and cantered off, after two/three strides managed to calm blade down, and he was just stood still, staring at the hedge, ears pricked.

Other two horses, a welsh cob and a sec A carried on cantering, and messing about as the girls didnt have hold off them. One of them kept backing into blade, but as we were stuck between a fence and the welsh cob, I (stupidly) decided to keep blade still. Next thing I know welsh cob goes to kick, Blade shoots foward, and cob kicks me, in the leg.

By now, I was sore, and was asking the girls to grab their ponies, but as they did they started smacking them, which scared blade. he gave a tiny buck, and span round, next thing I know, welsh cob has kicked me again, and Im lay on the floor.

At the time I was genuinely hurt, but I soon felt okay, and went to find Blade. he was cantering around the areana, and becase I'd loosened his girth his saddle had slipped.

One girl had grabbed the two ponies whilst the other was trying to catch blade, I kept saying "dont chase him, let him calm down"but she wouldnt listen. he soon calmed down, and I was able to hobble over to hi and grab his reins, undid his girth and dumped his saddle on the floor.

Sat here aching now :( but strangely Im happy, Blade trusted me to let me catch him, and was just so good, despite me falling off, it wasn't his fault - at all.

Am annoyed at the girls though, because I have tiny hoofmarks on my back (I think sec A trotted on me) and a massive bruise for welsh cob kicking, and they both insist there horse doesnt kick.

Anyway, heres my question, do you think I should have sorted his saddle out, and thengot back onfor a short walk round?

Didn't realise thiswould turn out so long - sorry :D

Oh god you poor thing! I fell off last week! Off my new mare , she spooked badly and I hit the road :-( she also just stood there and waited for me to get up and catch her. What I have to say you will not like... if you are aching today... tomorrow will be worse lol. Hot baths and gentle walking and stretching helped me. Hope you feel better soon x

Oh poor you! But at least you have that first fall over with now!

In an idead world, yes, I think you probably should of got back on so your confidence as much as his isnt dented, but we dont live in an ideal world!

Truth is though, apart from being achy I dont feel like I've lost my confidence, at all, in fact I feel Im more confident becaue of how well behaved he was, but I do feel guilty that I could have knocked his confidence :o :)

Its good that you havent lost your confidence, and he may be absolutely fine after this, they do surprise us sometimes! but maybe think about lunging him first with his saddle on before you ride next time, so he can see its all ok?
