How big moving are they?

This is a totally honest (and maybe says more about me than the correct technique)

The secret is to get them totally in front of your leg. If you don't and they're big moving you've not got a hope in hell... I never mastered the art of sitting to a full extention -- the secret here (In my eyes) is to hover just above the saddle standing slightly so there is no visual gap between you and the saddle... as extensions are usually done on a straight line it's a kind of 'point and fire' riding... I never lost marks for my riding for this one and on video it looks like I'm sitting but I'm definitely not.

If you have schooled horses try sitting first to the really collected stuff (Piaffe, passage, very collected trot and move to the faster manifestations of the pace and you'll get it...) It took me about 8 months to be able to sit to all my horse's trots (with the exception of the extension - see above)... so you have to give it time. It's well worth it tho' riding an advanced horse teaches you more quicker than any instructor ever will.
