Does anyone else have problems sitting to sitting trot?!I have now qualified for a 1* this season and hope to do a intermidate at the end. I have now got to master sitting trot!!I have had millions of lunge lessons, as this has been a common problem for a while now and I have not seemed to have improved,as soon as I take my stirrups back Im like a wobbly Jelly, my horse goes tense and to be frank looks bloody awful!!has anyone got any ideas or exercises I could try to improve it?!

have you tried lengthening your stirrups and sitting deep? i bobbed all around the place when i was in sj length and went down 2 holes and now its ok!

You need to make sure that you are relaxed when you go sitting, not tencing through you seat. Start off by getting your horse to do a really really slow trot and try to sit deep into himmoving your hips with him, absorbing his movement through your lower back. There were some articles in horse and rider mag that were quite helpful in March last year. I tried to link to it but you have to regester and sign in - just put sitting trot in the search - called are you sitting comfortably

I also find sitting trot really hard!!! only on my horse for some reason tho.. on anyone elses it's fine (tho mine is very awkward in dressage).. anyway, last year i managed to over come it by letting my irons down, and taping my feet to them, therefore being more like when you're riding without them...
NB obviously safety is a bit of an issue here.. if you try it and die, don't blaim me

haha

Sometimes if you think of doing little mini rises it helps you to move your hips in time with the horse- I do this in mediums and find it very helpful.

Otherwise, endless work with no stirrups!!

this may sound daft.....however i think that saddles have a lot to do with this problem, i.e. my stubben is really difficult to get a decent sitting trot in, however my jefferies is quite easy, my trainer says that not only does the saddle need to fit the horse but it also needs to fit your pelvis too, as in the stubben is too narrow for my pelvis.

(no jokes about sausages down an alleyway please!!)

There's a horse simulator in hemyock and the lady who runs in does Alexander technique as well as being a BHSI. She's very good.

Second this- she's a family friend and is very good. She's called Felicity Mann.

Alexander is a technique of holding the head and controlling your posture to imrpove your riding- it's a bit odd but lots of people find it helps!!
