I just can't sit to my ponys trot ...I can sit to any other horse /pony (well ones I have ridden) but not mine ?? He has a short bouncy stride ..very strong in his back ..I can sit for 3-4 strides ..then I have to go rising ..fancy going up a step in dressage but would have to sort this sitting trot first ..any tips (I tried no stirrups :s) :)

Lol. I once tried riding a friend's little cob and could neither rise nor sit properly it's trot was so short and choppy. Not helped by being helpless with laughter for most of the time:p
good luck and sorry no advice as I struggle with one I normally ride too for the same reason. :o

I really struggled with twizzy she has a huge trot. I found it easier if I wasn't concentrating on sitting. So kept changing the rein. Doing
Small circles. Shoulder in. Leg yield etc. then when I want to rise canter so still sitting then back to trot once rebalanced. Also find it helps if I push my heals down further and forward. Helps for me anyway :)

I found the simulator great for grasping rising trot on a big moving horse, but as soon as I was confronted with the choppy, bouncy trot of the ponies I ride, I was right back to square one, because my core was too weak to move my hips fast enough!

I do about twenty minutes without stirrups to get my rising trot at its best, and then gradually decrease the amount I move my hips with the 'rise' until I'm sitting.

I still haven't mastered sitting without the half-hour of work beforehand, though. I need to spend more time in the gym...
