Still no improvement! Horse badly bruised his pedal bone and soft tissue when out in the field he has got a further 3 months to go with T/O in small paddock untill his next lameness assesment but its so frustrating seems to make an improvment one day than be just as bad the next! Anyone else had a similar experience?

Yes, it was a hind foot, took the best part of four months to get right as he kept knocking it.
He's 100% now though.
Very stressful time as it's so painful for them.

Not personally, but friend's horse had a similar problem and had 3 months in before being allowed out. He was still sore on hard surfaces but I lent her my pony's hoof boots so he could walk from stable to field for a bit of fresh air. That seemed to really help protect the bruised area so he could move across the yard. Good luck.

I am really puzzled. Can anyone explain three or four months box rest for bruising? How does it help heal a bruised foot to keep the horse immobile and reduce the blood supply to the foot??

Mine isn't on complete box rest he gets 2 hours turnout in a postage stamp sized paddock as he is at huge risk of further damage to his coffin joint if he puts anymore strain on that leg he hasnt been given 100% chance of recovery it all depends on how well the bone recovers!

I guess I just don't understand how damage that serious can be a bruise. I hope your horse makes a full recovery.

I know i couldnt get my head round it but i think its because hes damaged the bone somehow because hes had a treatment to help regenerate bone growth on his mri it just showed up as a massive black mass on his pedal bone but there was no fracture
