We have an elderly arab who we normally feed soaked sixteen plus cubes along with her other feed, has ended up with mix instead of cubes by mistake this week but as it softened on soaking we fed it anyway (had opned bag before realsied mistake). Can anyone confirm if thier is any difference in the ingredients between the mix and cubes info on bag and dodson webiste not veyr clear as to actual ingredients!
issue is horse has started sweating and shes cold so not an over rugging heating thing and last time this happened was when owner tried adding barley too her feed as she was loosing weight so wondered if thier was barley in the mix that wasn't present in the cubes?
any advice as to ingredients contents welcome, many thanks

I think the only people who will accurately be able to answer your question are the manufacturers. Most have on-line access to ther nutritionists and are good at answering customer queries. I would drop them an email if I was you.

Mixes tend to be a lot higher in starch, so that could be an issue, also if the horse has poor teeth they may not be able to chew/ digest the mix.

( I always wonder why veteran mixes exist, seeing most veteran's have diastama's)...

we cut our loses and put her back on the pellets and the sweating has stopped shes defiently become intollerent to something in her old age poor lass but she does love her bucket of slop! shes got a healthy appetite just need to mash everything up for the old girl.

Well, sugars and starches won't be doing any horse any good, so go from there really.

I know someone who reintroduced sixteen plus to put weight on a horse, within days they had a thin lame horse, that's sugar for you.
