Should the size of bit ring make any difference to its action?
I've been trying Jenny in a kk ultra loose ring. Its 5 1/4" - I've had this bit for donkeys years and it has small rings on it. She goes well in it so I decided to order another one to go on her other bridle so I didn't have to keep changing them over all the time (I know I'm very lazy

). When the new one came it has much bigger rings on it but the mouthpiece is exactly the same size and thickness. She had the new bit on for 2 days - for a lesson then at a show and I noticed yesterday that the ring has pinched one corner of her lip. I don't understand why it would happen with one bit and not the other unless there is a slight difference in the way the 2 bits work with the respect to the different ring sizes.

I don't want to ride her in the bit with the bigger rings any more but it doesn't look like sprenger make the ones with the smaller rings anymore so any suggestions - I think the 5 3/4" would be too big. I've looked at a bit with loose rings that has a "fluted" edge to try to stop it rubbing which I would consider if its dressage legal - link - http://www.thesaddleryshop.co.uk/P/KK_Ultra_Type_2_16mm-(408).aspx but the mouthpiece is thicker than the one she is in currently so I'm not sure it'll really suit either.
