I'm trying to get some weight on my boy.... Currently feeding alpha beet, alpha a oil, micronized linseed, veg oil and a general vit and min supplement. I want to add in some grass nuts but a lot of people on these forums seem to think they are better soaked (risk of choking). My question is... how do I feed grass nuts if I have to soak them because they will make each feed way too big. If I feed them try I could add half a stubbs scoop without the feed being too big but if I soak half a scoop then obviously this creates a heck of a lot more food. If I soak half a scoop and then use half a scoop of that mixture to put in his feed then I'm using much less than if I feed them dry. Does this make sense? I suppose I'm using quite a lot of alpha beet in each meal, would it be better (for weight gain) to feed more soaked grass nuts and less alpha beet? Ahh why is it so hard!!!

For me personally I would ditch the alpha products and use either just the grass nuts or add a fibre mash that hasn't got alfalfa in as this is not always the most productive for weight gain. I would swap the veg oil for sunflower oil, keep the linseed and feed 3 or 4 times a day. Also making sure he has truly adlib forage, even if it is barley/oat straw, just to keep his gut moving as this will help him utilise any feed to give.

What about contacting a feed brand tomorrow like spillers or Allen and Page and ask their advice. That's what I have just done and it's been really helpful with ideas on what I should feed. Sometimes you also get vouchers off their feeds.

i had Allen & Page in to assess all mine. They are now following her diet recomendations and are getting the most humungous feed. I can only carry 2 buckets at a time they are so heavy, but as all the food is soaked , obviously an awful lot of the bulk and the wieght is actually water, even so they look almosy impossible to eat at first, but all of them are finiahed within 20 minutes and licking theit bucketd clean. Im sure well soaked food is better for their digestion especially if it is high fibre. Incidentally I can see the weight benefits in them even after only 2 weeks. And yes I got loads of freebies including 2 sacks of feed.
